Findlay Automotive: Making Dreams Come True for local kids with Make-A-Wish
Published: 9/10/2024
Las Vegas, NV — It's every parent's worst nightmare—having a child diagnosed with a serious illness. In these heart-wrenching moments, parents would do anything to bring even a little relief to their child. Luckily, organizations like Make-A-Wish have dedicated themselves to brightening the lives of children facing life-threatening conditions. And for Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada, one of its strongest supporters in making these dreams come true is Findlay Automotive Group.
Scott Rozenzweig, CEO of Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada, explains the mission simply: "We want to grant a wish for every eligible child." To qualify, the child must be between the ages of 2.5 and 18 and battling a life-threatening illness. Rozenzweig emphasizes that these wishes are not merely "last wishes." "Eighty-six percent of the kids who receive a wish go on to live extraordinary lives," he notes, dispelling the common misconception that these wishes are reserved for children at the end of their fight.
"Doctors write prescriptions for medicine, we write them for hope," Rozenzweig continues. And, thanks to their generous community partners, such as Findlay Automotive, those prescriptions for hope can take many forms—whether it's a car makeover, an all-terrain wheelchair, or something else entirely. "Findlay has been an amazing partner. You never know what a child is going to wish for, but partners like Findlay always come through."
Tyler Corder, CFO of Findlay Automotive, speaks fondly of his experience with Make-A-Wish wish reveal events “It’s an incredible experience” Corder says. “We’ve done car makeovers for kids who are old enough to drive and we even provided a retrofitted RV to a family so they could travel more easily with their child who had special needs due to his illness.
Seeing the gratitude from the children and their families is heartwarming. We’re proud to be able to lift the spirits of these kids who have gone through so much. Findlay will continue doing what we can to make wishes come true.”
Last year, Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada granted 174 wishes, a record for the organization. This year, they’re on track to fulfill 185 dreams. But they can’t do it alone. Community members with special connections that can help grant a child’s wish are encouraged to reach out. You can learn more or donate at Wish.org/SNV.
