It might surprise you to know that there are over 17,000 homeless high school students in Nevada, according to The National Center for Homeless Education. While this is a tragic statistic, there are wonderful individuals and organizations in Nevada working to help. One of these is Project 150, led by Executive Director Kelli Kristo.

The mission of Project 150 is to offer free support and services to homeless, displaced, and disadvantaged high school students in Southern Nevada, so they can remain in school and graduate.

When asked why Findlay Automotive was supporting Project 150, CFO Tyler Corder shared, “Most of us remember the ups and downs of our high school years. It’s an important time where you learn and grow into an adult; it can certainly be challenging. Can you imagine how hard it would be if you didn’t have a place to live or a stable family situation? These are just kids and they need our help. We’re grateful that Project 150 is taking on this monumental task and making it possible for these kids to graduate high school and hopefully continue their education.”

Kristo added, “We are really involved in Southern Nevada; we serve 75 local high schools and 30 more in Reno, Nevada. Our mission is to ensure these kids graduate high school. We take care of all their basic necessities—clothing, food, school supplies, hygiene items—all year long. Then we take it a step further by offering higher education opportunities through scholarships. We have two boutiques where we offer new and like-new clothing, allowing kids to shop every thirty days. We help kids from any high school; no registration is required.”

She continued, “Thanks to partners like Findlay Automotive, we’re able to continue our mission and change the course of young people’s lives by providing them what they need to get an education and end the cycle of poverty.”
